JOHN WETZEL
FOR WYOMING HOUSE DISTRICT 25

KEY ISSUES

Al Simpson said that Wyoming Republicans are practical people who believe in getting things done. I believe that too. I am not interested in culture war politics or ideological battles that have nothing to do with Wyoming. I am interested in Park County — in our economy, our schools, our public lands, our way of life, and the neighbors I have shared this community with for more than 30 years.
Wyoming has always governed itself. Our legislators should answer to their neighbors first, last, and always.
I ask for your support, your trust, and your vote.
I believe in government that is lean, competent, honest, and effective. I've spent 20 years in city government proving that things can get done when people show up, work together, and keep their eye on results.
Through service on the Wyoming Association of Municipalities Board, I broadened my leadership statewide and am now inspired to develop common-sense solutions at the legislative level.
I will listen and communicate with my constituents. I will act with integrity. I will bring Proven Leadership in representing HD25.
Wyoming citizens are among the lowest taxed in the country. That is something to be proud of, and I intend to keep it that way. But fiscal responsibility means spending wisely. I will support responsible stewardship of Wyoming's finances and will oppose cuts that harm Wyoming families and communities for the sake of political appearances.
Wyoming has sovereign wealth funds and responsible reserves because of decades of careful, pragmatic management. My job in Cheyenne will be to protect that legacy and ensure Wyoming government delivers real value for the dollars it spends.
Powell and the surrounding communities of Park County depend on a healthy rural economy. Agriculture, energy, tourism, and small business are all part of that picture. I spent 30 years running businesses in this region. I understand what it takes to keep a business alive in a rural market, and I know that communities like ours need strategic investments from state government to help them grow.
Wyoming's energy economy has been the foundation of our state’s prosperity and I will protect it. At the same time, responsible leadership means developing new economic opportunities alongside traditional industries — ensuring that Wyoming communities have a diverse and resilient economic base for the long term.
Public lands are part of Wyoming's identity and economy. I support balanced management that protects access for hunting, fishing, grazing, and recreation while honoring our obligations to future generations. I do not support the sale of public lands.
I have been a life-long sportsman, including board member and past president of Pheasants Forever and current member of Park County Outdoor Recreation Collaborative.
I believe in strong public education from kindergarten through college.
Wyoming's K-12 public schools are the backbone of communities like Powell. I support full and stable funding and local control for our public schools and the teachers, staff, and administrators who show up every day for Wyoming's children.
Wyoming parents have always had the right to homeschool their children or choose private education. I respect that right fully. But that right does not require a check from the state.
Wyoming’s community colleges are at the heart of the state’s economic activity. They deserve stable funding and support to help drive community development and vitality through traditional classroom instruction, skilled trades, and concurrent and dual (high school) enrollment. I will work to preserve the value Northwest College brings to Powell and the entire Bighorn Basin region.
The University of Wyoming trains Wyoming's doctors, engineers, teachers, and business leaders. It attracts research dollars and keeps talented young Wyomingites at home. You do not strengthen Wyoming by weakening its university. I will be a consistent defender of UW's funding, its independence, and its ability to serve Wyoming.
